- The Chasm: Life was peaceful in the packs to the south, but the integration of the domestic dogs and strays into the wolf pack created problems with prejudices. Maybe it would have blown over, maybe it would have all just passed by. However the Alpha Fenrir, Bobby, of the Snake Pack named his son, Gabe, his heir, instead of his eldest daughter, Iris. Both were natural leaders, and while Iris has the initiative, Gabe had the stability. Bobby recognized this and wanted the next Fenrir to continue holding the pack with a stable and wise paw. Led astray by the pack's third in command, Iris lured her father from the safety of camp and killed him and led a rebellion to chase the dogs from the pack. The wolves of the Snake Pack split. While some of them did not like having the dogs in their pack, they viewed Iris's deed as betrayal and viewed her an untrustworthy leader. Gabe and his mother, Sable, helped lead the pack away from their home and north, past the mountains.
- The Disease: The wise wolves had always kept the peace. Even most loners and rogues in the area respected them, being wary of any healers who traveled down and respecting their authority. They acted as peacekeepers and as a higher authority to the Gods. However at the time of Iris's revolution, they were dealing with problems of their own. A mad bear wondered too close to the hub of the Wise Wolves territory and attacked. The disease spread to only one other wolf, but they wouldn't realize it for nearly another moon.
- Settling: Upon reaching the forest to the north of the Snake Range mountain, Gabe renamed their pack and restructured it, wanting to manage their group more efficiently than it had once been. It was the dead of winter, but the untouched land held deer and rabbits and while many of them would go hungry, very few perished.
