♛ | on and on, does anybody know what we are living for? THE SHOW MUST GO ON. | SableThe trek had been long and silent. While he originally had intended to make it on his own, he knew he shouldn't leave camp without letting someone know, just in case something was to happen to him on the trip, or Linden or someone else from the Snake Pack did try something. But he wouldn't be scarred off by them completely. Cautious, yes, but not scared. He wouldn't be kept from his father's grave, damn them. He was no Wise Wolf, and he didn't pretend to know the ways of the healers or the ways of a God, but he believed in what he'd been taught growing up, the same stories still told to the pups today. He believed his father was up there somewhere in Valhalla, watching over them. The gorge was a rocky climb down, but the only reason it was difficult was due to the ice and lingering snow, making him slip and have to catch his footing occasionally. The gorge was neutral territory since it was one of the main passes through to the south of the Bay Peak and the Snake Range, without going over the mountains themselves, and he wondered if any of Linden's wolves would attack him. He doubted it. Linden was a cruel wolf, but not stupid. The Wise wolves would never tolerate such disrespect. In the past few moons, the dirt and shrubs had over taken the small mound where they had buried Bobby, but he still knew the smell, the exact spot. He'd never buried any of his family before. Never needed to. But that horrible night, fleeing from their home they'd realized they had no way to know if there was any unoccupied territory, so he brought the group to a halt in the gorge. Despite the fact that Sable was still in shock, she'd insisted on helping him break the earth open and bury her mate. He bowed his head and cleared his throat. "Hello, father... dad..." He paused as a few tears came to his eyes, the fur on his neck standing on end. "I don't know if you're watching us or just spending all your time away hunting with Odin, but, Iris came back to the pack. I-I tried to do hat you would have done, but... It's hard. She's not like she used to be. I hope you forgive her, dad. Linden corrupted her mind. He, he wanted to be Alpha...""I just wanted to come and... see you. I'm sorry. I'm sorry that you died, and I'm sorry I wasn't there to stop it. I'm sorry that Iris never thought me strong enough and I'm sorry that..." He dropped off. |

| i'm slipping away and nothing makes senseSable was following. And it took a bit more effort than she really cared for, but she had wanted to come, once she knew of her son's plans. Leaving the Stormsoul Pack, the female followed in Gabe's pawsteps, her ears pricked for any sounds of wolves who might not be so friendly. Her paws skidded on the slope, her legs tensing as she came to a halt to keep from losing her balance.
Turning her head, she watched Gabe pause by Bobby's grave- her heart squeezing as he bent over it, muttering words she couldn't hear. Padding closer, she caught the last words, and gently brushed against her son's sturdy body. "Peace, Gabe... he knows. He watches, and i know he's so proud of you for stepping up and taking charge."
Settling down beside the mound of earth covering her mate's body, Sable lowered her head, her nose brushing one of the bushes growing from the grave as her eyes closed. She fully believed what she had told Gabe, but knowing Bobby was watching from Valhalla didn't ease the pain of him being gone from here, from their lives.
"Oh, my love-" she whispered, and eased onto her stomach, a deep sigh escaping her. Sable flicked a glance at her son, curious and wanting to understand completely the Ulfric's reason behind leaving his pack. "Why did you come here, Gabe?" just leave me to dream of the way things used to be |

♛ | on and on, does anybody know what we are living for? THE SHOW MUST GO ON. | SableThe sound of pawsteps hit his ears but the smell of his mother kept him from moving. She pressed against him and assured him, gentle soft words that sound like they almost caught in her throat. It made sense why she'd come. He kept his head bowed as the older she-wolf lowered her head to the bush covering the grave, closing her eyes and then settling down onto her stomach. It hurt Gabe, even more than his father being gone, to see just how age was beginning to affect his mother. Her and Bobby had never seemed old, but without her mate, she seemed to slip down that slope to being an Elder and it made Gabe's heart hurt. He didn't want her to leave him too. She turned and Gabe slide his eyes from the grave to her and then back. "I wish we'd brought him with us. We couldn't know that the territory was empty, I know, but it doesn't feel right having him so far from us." He paused as his voice cracked slightly. "I... it feels wrong and lonely, being all the way over here." |

| i'm slipping away and nothing makes senseIt hadn't been easy for Sable to accept that Bobby was dead. There were still days when she woke and looked around the den for a moment before remembering that her mate was gone forever. Yes, she would see him again, and to that promise she clung, but the rest of this life stretched out, empty and lonely, even with her son and daughters at her side.
Her leg ached, as it often did these days. Sable shifted, kicking the limb out to the side and stretching it to ease the cramping of the muscle. A low groan as the pain eased a bit, and then she looked up at Gabe as he replied. Giving a single deep nod and flicking her tail, she gave a gentle request. "Lie down with me."
Carrying on, trying to pick her words carefully, seeking to ease his grief and guilt. "I think Bobby would have preferred it this way. He's far from us, true, but he's close to the lands where he was born and raised. He would have expected to die in them, and while that wasn't possible, this is the next best thing. Besides. His body may be here, but his spirit is with us, all the time."
Reaching out with her nose, the old female nuzzled her son's shoulder. "Gabe, you knew him well enough to know that he wouldn't leave you just like that. It's better this way. Don't fret, my son. He'll never be forgotten- his memory will always live on in the Stormsoul Pack."

♛ | on and on, does anybody know what we are living for? THE SHOW MUST GO ON. | SableHe didn't know how to feel about it. It was like time had stopped when Luke had brought his father's body back to camp. Like they weren't even in the proper time or place anymore, like some horrible story gone wrong. He stop a spot beside his mother and listened to her words. For the first time since they'd been chased from their homes, since Iris has betrayed them, he felt his anger rise up. He'd manage to keep it mostly in check, a burst here or there at Iris, but she'd become so broken he couldn't even keep the anger towards her. "He'd either want to be buried in his home, or with his family," Gabe growled slightly. "Not stuck in between them, alone." He understoo what she meant about his spirit being with them but it still hurt, and when she pressed her nose to his shoulder, it calmed him. "I know mom, I know." He let out a sigh and rested his head down onto his paws. "Do you think we'll ever be able to trust her again?" He asked, knowing she would know exactly the her he was talking about. The only canine who they needed to even wonder about trusting. |
