Wow! The little wolf gripped her claws around the rocks and stared down at the clearing below, the dens carved into the side of the mountain were located directly under her paws, but she could see the smaller dens under the roots of the large trees and further long the mountain's walls. It was the highest she had ever climbed on her own and she enjoyed being able to watch the pack come and go.
Of course "high" for this young pup wasn't actually that far off the ground. She had managed to crawl on top of the lowest lying den, set deep in the ground and one of the adult wolves could have easily stood their hind legs and plucked her from her perch. And that exactly was what her Uncle Gabe did.
"Get down from there, squirt." He said, in a playful manner, tugging her down to the floor. The pup squirm in agitation, though, swatting at her uncle's snout.
"No fair, Uncle Gabe!" She squealed, "I got up there all on my own!" She puffed her chest out in pride and then blinked, watching the squires follow their mentors out to train. She bounced, "Can I go too, Uncle Gabe?" She pleaded. "Pleeeeeeaaaaase?"
The older wolf shook his head sternly. "You know the rules. Pups become squires at eight moons. You're barely a quarter that."
"I'm almost three moons!" She retorted. Gabe shook his head and turned to join the Guards who were training squires in defense, calling over his shoulder at her, "Stay out of trouble!"
She pouted, sitting in the flattened grass and sighing loudly. Her brother was boring and the only other pups in the pack were either too young to play with, their eyes had only just opened, or were nearly squires and didn't let her play with them. It was borinnnng.
She perked her ears up, watching as the Pack payed little attention to her. Normally that would be a problem, but they wouldn't notice is she snuck out to explore some... right?
