RP Sample: It was still very dark. In the distance, just lighting the edge of the horizon, the sun was crawling into the sky. Asa turned her drowsy eyes to it, welcoming the first sunrise of her new litter's lives. They would not see it, nor even understand what a sunrise was, but to Asa it marked the end of a busy, tiring, yet exhilarating night. She had struggled all through the hours of darkness to bring forth her children, wracked by pain and trying to soothe herself by repeating that it would pass, it would end, and soon she would be lying contentedly on her side while her newborns suckled their first meal. And so it had happened. Now she lay still, feeling tiny paws and mouths work at her belly. The pain eased as she focused on the joy and love that rushed over her.
Mordred was here too, standing by her head with the softest smile on his face. They did not speak. Asa was fading rapidly into sleep and her mate seemed to sense that. Oh, but they had come such a long way from the first days of meeting. She remembered how he had annoyed her, acting far too much like a pup for her with the way he bounced around, joked and teased and flirted. Oh, the flirting! That might have worked on other females, but not Asa. She had simply rolled her eyes when he gushed about her beauty and how she reminded him of roses and sunrises. She had turned her back when he brought her offerings of meat and picked flowers for her. Unimpressed with him... until the day he had approached and instead of raving to her, had asked if she'd like to hear a story.
It had not been love at first sight. But love had been there- like a seed waiting for the right moment to begin growing. Slowly, slowly, affection for the male bloomed until she could not help but tell him so. Once he did away with the extravagant greetings and gifts and actually talked to her, got to know who she was and what she liked, once he got to know her for her, that was the moment that she began to fall for him. He had changed. For her. And while he was still wildly affectionate, she had learned to change for him and accept that he was who he was. And she found that he wasn't all bad. He cared for her, and this, above all, was what had drawn her to him.
Fading into sleep, Asa felt Mordred give her a soft lick on the muzzle and she smiled as she gave in to dreams.

History:
- Asa was born to loner parents. Unfortunately, her mother did not survive the birth of her and two pups who died shortly after. Her father, grieving the loss of his mate and two of his children and finding himself unable to care for the surviving pup, did the only thing he could do to ensure her survival. He gave her up, leaving her on the border of the Wise Wolves territory and fleeing the patrol making their way along the boundary. The patrol, consisting of young wolves eager to prove themselves, ignored the leader’s order to halt and took off after the lone male.
- In the rush, the pup was nearly trampled. It was luck- or perhaps not purely luck- that saved her from the paws of the canines who stampeded over the top of her. Only the patrol’s leader realized she was there when the others had disappeared. He nuzzled the little pup, picking her up and taking her back to camp without waiting for the overeager youngsters to end the chase.
- She was given to a female who had recently given birth, but whose pups had not lived. Joyfully the female took her in, lavishing affection in the pup. The she-wolf named her Asa, and she thrived and grew quickly. She was told from the start that she was adopted and no one knew who her parents were. Though hurt and a bit confused, Asa declared that, though born a loner, she would be as good a Wise Wolf as any pack-born pup. So she became a Wise Pup and kept her word, training and learning quickly, desperate to prove herself to the Wise Wolves.
- She was teased, by some, but she had friends and family who stuck up for her and told those who taunted to back off. As they grew, the taunts slowly eased off as maturity replaced disdain. While some would never truly like her, they put aside differences and worked together as one pack. Asa became a Wise Wolf at 13 months old. Having proven her talents at tracking, she was mostly assigned to hunts and border patrols.
- A few moons later, more Wise Pups graduated. Asa had known Mordred; they had both been Wise Pups for a short time. She had never been fond of his hyper ways and had steered clear of him because of this. But slowly she got to know him and eventually grew to love him, accepting his quirks as part of who he was. In time they became mates; just over a moon ago, she birthed him four pups and found herself to be quite well suited for motherhood.
