Heart beating with the quickness of the hare that ran upon the sight of a hunter, feeling as loud as the roar of thunder as it strikes the earth, Iris was filled with nothing but nerves. Only a quarter of a moon ago did she speak to her father about her ambitions, and only then was it that he began to help give her a bit of extra training, providing his expert advice as he tried to help his daughter. No amount of training could ever have dispelled her worry, and just how inadequate she felt in doing this. Logically, Iris knew that she could do this. Her heart didn't seem to want to listen though.
Today was the day. Calming herself, Iris looked back at her father before turning from her spot in front of the Fenrir's den, where she had been speaking to him, trying to give herself a pep-talk. Knowing she needed to be formal about this, Iris focused only on what she knew was protocol here. Confident she at least knew this, and confident that this would work out in her favor despite her nerves, Iris held her head high and began padding across the camp, her eyes fixed on one figure.
The camp noticed; the intensity of her stare and the seriousness in her body. By following her gaze, most could figure out what was about to happen. They perked up, turning to provide their utmost attention. Then Iris was there, and a hush fell over the whole camp. Dexter had been speaking too his mate, his back turned to Iris. Sapphire, however, had seen Iris. She fell silent, and Dexter quickly noticed and turned around. His eyes fell on her, looked into hers, and he understood.
"Remus of our pack." She began to speak, clear and for all to hear, no quiver in her voice and a fire in her eyes. "You have served well, and proven yourself to deserve the position of Remus, third strongest of all the wolves that have lived here. Here I challenge you to prove once again that you still deserve to hold the title of Remus, and that I, Iris, daughter of the Fenrir Bobby and the Rhea Sable am not stronger." Her eyes were looking straight into Dexter, and he calmly looked back. There was a certain peace in Dexter's eyes. He knew Iris, and the whole pack had merely been waiting for the day she would finally challenge him, and he knew of her determination and strength. Dexter knew what the result of this challenge was. Yet he was content. Iris respected that.
"I accept your challenge." He replied, just as clear and steady. Without another word, the two padded toward the center of the camp, a clearing that was reserved for such formalities. The Fenrir wordlessly took his place, as did the Rhea, with the East and West at their sides. Bolverk stood beside West, and Romulus stood beside East. Iris spared a second to study Romulus, who was intently watching the proceedings. Hunters, Soldiers and Guards all stood on the other side of the clearing. Iris noticed mostly her father and her mother. They looked so very proud, and then Bobby gave a little nod. It ws the indication to begin the fight, but she could also see in his eyes. 'You get him, my baby girl.'
