Bonsai's old bones creaked as he turned around in his nest, stretching and kicking his legs out. He'd inverted his sleeping schedule since there was far less activity and chance of him being caught by one of the pack during the night. He steered clear of the pack's camp in the sleepy meadows, though part of him yearned to see it again after so long.
There was no time for such nonsense. He shook his head. It was raining once more, switching from the snow that had fallen only a week before. He preferred the snow, quite honestly. It didn't soak him quite as badly. Time to try and see Isali, if she could sneak out of the camp. Bobby was such a dimwit to think that she was the wolf she claimed to be.
He'd done better off than he'd really believed while by himself, but he'd begun to push Isali and try to seek out those who were disgruntled by the mongrels being allowed into their pack. Winter was quickly encroaching upon the forest and a lone wolf would not last long, especially at his age.

Timber had caught a strange scent for several nights in a row and decided to act on it. He had no proof to bring to Bobby, so he knew it would be useless going to the Alpha until he had solid evidence that there was someone lurking in the south end of the forest.
He headed out as night began to fall, using the excuse of a quick walk to the guards and the promised of a fat rabbit for his mate, who was still stuck in their den with their newest litter. He knew she was a little envious of his freedom to come and go, while she was stuck with their pup, unless she could tie him or Hemma down to watch them. Tiber loved watching him pups but Libby was always yelling at him about not containing them, whatever that meant.
As he drew closer to the southern end of the forest, he raised his nose and inhaled. Ah. There it was again. He let out a warning growl to however was lurking there.

Bonsai didn't know that voice, so instead he halted in his track, looking around to make sure whoever had growled wasn't waiting to jump him. Damn it! The smell was Pack, and certainly not his daughter. Blast the Gods! Without moving another step he lowered himself slowly into the grass, hoping the night, the light snowfall and his pelt would help him to blend in.
Instead, he caught the sight of a wolf coming into view and he flicked his ears back, watching the large wolf come into view. Blast it again! He wouldn't be able to fight or outrun him. He was too big and in his prime, unlike Bonsai, who should be in the Elders den. Blast blast blast!
He didn't recognize the wolf though, or his scent beside it being pack. Hope glimmered in the distance and Bonsai doubted that the wolf would likely know who he was. His stupid and pathetic sister probably forgot she even had a brother. Better play the weak card. An easy story came to mind and he pretending to trip forward through the grass. He whimpered loudly, holding his front left paw close to his chest in a sad and pathetic manner.
"Oh no," he rasped, making his voice sound older than it normally did, "Ow. My old bones."

Timber stopped dead in his tracks as an old wolf staggered into view. He was thin, which wasn't a surprise. Elders didn't survive lone on their own. It was one of the benefits of the Pack. He paused, looking the old male over before stepping forward, listening to the raspy wheeze. He didn't sound good. He may have been catching a cold. When he'd though that a rogue was coming into the Pack's territory, he didn't expect it to be such an old thing. Using unnecessary violence on him would be like attacking a pup.
Instead he tiled his head in concern and approached the older wolf, "Are you alright?" He asked, the concern in his voice genuine. "Hey, you know you're in Pack territory, right?" He knew from personal experience that some wolves, when they got old began to forget things, even simple things, like scent markers, names or how to do simple tasks, like remembering to eat.

Isali padded along, a rabbit in her jaws. It had been some time since she had joined the Pack, looked over, tested, and found acceptable by the old Fenrir. She had pledged fealty to him, vowing to serve him at the cost of her life, and melded with Pack life with an ease that surprised her. Maybe it was just her instincts kicking in, working with the rest of them to ensure the Pack's survival, but even as she helped them, she undermined and foiled them, upsetting the balance of their lives in little ways. Especially with the pups; she told stories of her wide travels and ways of living before coming here, leaving out her father of course, mostly of how she survived on her own with no help.
She'd taken to hunting for her father lately. He'd never admit it, but she knew winter was hard on him. He was not young as she, and stiff joints and muscles made it hard for him to catch his own food. When she could, she hunted and brought him meat. She never actually killed the creatures, and never gave them to him face to face. She would injure it, perhaps break its legs, and leave it where he would find it. He might be old, but he was still proud, and in this way, she helped without actually forcing him to accept aid. He caught it and killed it, finishing what she started.
Which led back to why she was here, carrying a live and trembling rabbit between her jaws. Blood matted one hind leg, the bone visible through the dark fur. Isali never took from the prey pile. She hunted live prey and delivered live prey. But, as she neared the spot she usually left food at, she was startled to see Timber. And, just beyond him, Bonsai. Isali wasted no time. Her jaws clamped mercilessly around the rabbit's neck, severing the spine and killing the creature in an instant. She dropped it, and spoke. "Timber! Who is that?" Play dumb. Of course she didn't know that wolf; he was a stranger to her too. "Poor old-timer," she continued, because how she pass up a chance to mock him to his face? "Is he hurt?"

Gods damn it! Of course now she'd show up. Bonsai repressed the urge to snap his jaws on the scruff of his daughter's neck, but wasn't able to hold in the growl. Which wasn't too out of place was it? No elder liked a younger wolf mocking their age, did they? Right? Right. He blinked back to the other wolf and lowered his head in submission once more, "I'm sorry, I must have gotten lost again. The snow makes it hard to recognize anything," he said with a terrible sigh.
"My mate and I got separated in the night, I've been searching for her ever since," He explained, laying it on thick for the other wolf. "You haven't happened to see a cream colored she-wolf around, have you?"
