Aliel was in a poor mood, which was unusual for her. She went about the camp growling at everyone, no matter who they were- from the youngest pup to the oldest Elder, who she normally respected. But today, something was off. Different. She paced around the camp, grumbling under her breath. Her eyes were blank, not recognizing any of those she passed. Glazed, sliding over form after form. She was not seeing her packmates. That one, the new mother who was mates with Merlin- she was a different wolf, slimmer, smaller, with two reddish girl-pups. The female Elder, she was sable and white with unusual blue-purple eyes.
And this wolf-dog pup she was approaching... he was an adult wolf, old and weak, past his prime and unable to lead properly for his failing mind. Aliel herself was not a dog anymore, but a wolf. Strong and fleet, thick-furred, beautiful, capable. She caught the glance of a wolf standing by a den and caught the nod he gave her. Turning back to the old one, she swallowed and lowered her head. "Daddy. I need to talk to you somewhere quiet. Will you come with me?" Her tail wagged, her eyes hopeful.

All day Morgause had been acting strange. Well, stranger. She didn't want to go in the csves. She didn't want to star gaze or go exploring. Morgause was anxious and nerves gnawed away at her. Nimueh and Gawaine had even completely decided to ignore Morgause after being with her for a few moments this morning.
But no. Something was wrong. Constantly Morgause would claw at her own ears, randomly hissing. When Morgana tried to figure out what was going on, Morgause would just hiss and then go even weirder by nuzzling up to Morgana and wrapping her tail around her sister's for a moment, assuring her it was nothing, He'd be okay. He just knew that she didn't want his love to be unhappy as he was right now. She was suffering enough because he had torn it all up- chaos- chaos- chaos- mess....
His eyes looked up, cloudy and sad as they looked at the wolf in front of him. Lean and strong, sparking a feeling of pride and sadness deep within him. "Of course, I'll always talk to you." He looked around and shook the sleep from his tired, old body and began to walk.

She smiled, gentle and loving, but it was a farce. There was no affection for this beaten up old wolf in her heart, no spark of warmth that made her willing to back away and run before she went through with this horribly traitorous act. Perhaps her will trembled just a bit, as she turned and walked shoulder to shoulder with her father, and she looked back once more, her eyes meeting his, and she shored up her courage when he smiled, his eyes full of promises of things to come, if she went through with it.
"Thank you, Daddy. I... I know I've been distant lately. I was just upset. You understand, right?" she begged of him, as her paws traveled the familiar path out of the camp. "You still love me, right?" Her voice weakened, all but cracked, as emotion overwhelmed her. This was more than just an act now- she was truly torn, desperate, and at the same time afraid of what he would say. She wanted him to say yes, because she had longed her whole life to earn his love, but if he did... no, she had to stop thinking of it.
This was surely far enough. She paused, stiff and trembling for a moment, before looking back at him. "Don't you love me, Daddy?" she whispered. "Because I've always loved you."

He followed her, even though he had a sick feeling. How could she be giving him these second thoughts and be leading him away? It was all wrong and her mind kept jumping from him to her, him to her. Don't go. But he must go with her. He'd always follow her.
Walking alongside the other wolf, he kept glancing at her. Worry and hope and doubt in his eyes. Then she spoke and his heart broke, "Oh baby girl, I understand. You have to know I love you, as much as I love him." His voice broke, though this conversation her been looming on him for moons, it was hard to have.
He felt far, and glanced back around to try and find his mate, who he didn't want to be sad, who he wanted to see this reunion and how happy their child was now, would be. "I'll always love you, Baby girl. No matter what." He reassured.

He loved her. By his own words, he declared that he loved her. And those false words were what strengthened her above all. Her ears pinned back, and the whole sad act changed. "Do you now?" she asked, not looking at him. Too angry to turn around and meet his eyes, because he was a liar, a plotter, and he claimed to love her but he didn't, he didn't, or he would not have taken her rank from her, shaken her so that her standing in the pack was in question and made the rest wonder why? Why the sudden change of heart? It was she who should have gotten the prize- her and her alone. The trembling stopped. Her voice was firm and cold. "You lie."
In a flurry of movement, she spun about, skidding to a halt to block the way out. Her ears pinned flat, her muzzle wrinkled as she snarled, and her eyes were closed off, emotionless. "You lie, Father! You never loved me, it was all an act, I know- he told me! You plotted and tricked me, and I hate you, I hate you! Never love you again, you sneaky slimy liar." Her hackles were raised, and she stared, but for all her declarations that she hated him, she couldn't help remembering how he had been, once. What had changed; when had he stopped loving her; why had he decided she wasn't good enough?
"We plotted too. What he says, it's all right, makes sense. And he says you must die. He cannot do it, so I will. I will kill you, Father, and claim my rightful place as Heir." She lunged at him, jaws wide, striking for his throat.

Morgause was off, more so than usual, and while Nimueh and Gawaine began to ignore her, Morgana hung close. Her own pelt was prickling with warning. Something very wrong was coming and looming over them like a large black cloud. It was hard to explain. Once she'd eaten some berries in her grandfather's garden, and the only way she could think of it was like a little berry getting slowly stepped on, all the juices inside it pressing and straining to escape the skin and the room inside the berry vanished, and as the tension increased, the chance of the berry bursting grew greater and greater.
But the burst didn't come. At least not that morning. As lunch time grew closer, the tension grew so great that Morgana felt like she was choking, like the air was slowly vanishing. Morgause and the others didn't seem to notice how thick the sir had become and Morgana grew confused. She wanted her mama, her grandpa, her daddy, they'd know what was wrong, but Morgana felt so weak, it was like she was attacked to Morgause at the hip. It was in this cloudy fog that she heard Aliel approach them. She didn't know much about the whippet but what she'd heard her grandma and grandpa say about her. But Morgause, Morgause was talking like she was a he and like Aliel and her knew each other. What was going on? Her head ached and some of the pressure lessened, like the juice was beginning the leak from the berry, the dam slowly cracking.
Time was passing too fast and too slow and She couldn't hear the words. It was like she was standing from a far, watching in horror as her baby girl lunged for the wolf who owned her heart. No no nononnonoo NO!
And then suddenly, the berry burst. Whatever had slowly begun to be pieced together in her fogged mind was wiped clean as the dam broke and she saw the whippet fighting her sister. She wasn't strong enough! A howl broke from her muzzle as she took a few steps back, her body still weak from the lack of air throughout the day.
"DADDY!" She screamed, howling the loudest she'd ever howled in her life.

Every word his baby girl said was a strike to his heart. She didn't believe him. She didn't think he loved her. How could he have ever stopped loving her? How could she think that? He'd ruined her, and turned her against him. "Of course I don't. You'll always be my baby girl, no matter what he does or is." He was trying to reason, but sin his heart he knew it wouldn't work. Instinct told him to run away, fight, do something.
He couldn't run, he couldn't fight. These tired old bones were too slow, his old and foolish heart too heavy. He couldn't even deny her words, while he had not plotted quite as she said, he had. Thrown aside his family's feelings in strategy, plotted behind the scenes to thrown his own daughter for a spin. Morgause broke through and tried to scream as the strange whippet tried to attack, but He wouldn't
He wouldn't get his daughter in trouble. Instinct told him to move, and that's what he did, but only a little. The fenrir's body squirmed and moved, only too feel teeth sinking into his front leg, causing a moan that was not a old man's to exit his mouth. He batted tried to bat away, but he couldn't put force behind it. "Baby girl, please..."

It had been an odd day. Mordred had been planning to go out hunting, but according to Asa, the children were being difficult. That wouldn't have kept him behind, though he would've liked to help his mate, but then the hunting party decided that they were enough without him and he gratefully took his leave.
The contentions among the pups were astounding, Nimueh and Gawaine being very nervous around Morgause and Morgana, both of whom were acting... odd, to say the least. Finally, the parents had given up, and Asa decided to take Nimueh and Gawaine outside for some fresh air to play. Morgause, who didn't want to go anywhere for once, wanted to stay in the caves. Morgana wouldn't leave her sister, so Mordred stayed with the girls in the cave.
He wasn't good at dealing with the girls when they were like this, so disconnected and plain old strange. So, he figured that they just needed to be odd for a day. Girls.
While keeping half an eye on them, Mordred chattered away with another mother, who was watching her own pups. Out of the corner of his eye, he saw a figure begin to enter. Aliel, as he remembered. The strange whippet.
He looked over when he saw where Aliel was headed. First he was curious, wondering how his daughter's would react. Than Morgause's posture and complete... everything changed the moment Aliel got there. Morgause hunched over, and looked so old and tired. Their conversation he could not hear, but as Aliel turned and Morgause began to follow, Mordred took a few steps forward.
The strangeness of the situation drew a few eyes. Aliel and Morgause were walking further, and Mordred was moving to catch up with them.
Aliel jumped, Morgana screamed, Mordred broke into a sprint and a vicious growl. He didn't care that this was a packmate, no, he jumped and hurtled himself straight at the whippet who dared attack his daughter.

She sprang, hurling herself at the old wolf, and if a tear or two fell, she ignored it. He lifted a paw, a weak attempt to fend her off, but it didn't work. She sank her teeth in, biting through skin and tasting blood, before releasing the leg and snapping for his throat again. She got him this time. Her jaws closed around his neck, and she rolled him to his side. She bit down hard and felt his throat cave, felt skin tear, tasted blood that gushed into her mouth and down her muzzle, pooling in the grass around her paws. Mingled pain and relief. She had killed him. She'd done it!
A snarl! She glanced up to see her brother lunging at her, and she released her father to dart off to one side, evading his fangs. No! How had he found her? He'd followed. It was the only explanation. But he was too late, too late! "Too late!" she spoke, taunting. "Dead, dead, he's dead! Ha, and you thought you had won! But who's stronger now? Not him! Me, all me!" She danced, her front paws prancing in one spot and her head darting every which way, eyes wide and bright, but still glazed and blank. "Too bad, brother, but you lose! I lead the Pack now! Me and him- we rule side by side!"
She went still, abruptly, as her gaze found her. She paused, stilled, and trembled. "Mother. Mama, don't. Don't look at me like that. Please. I... I had to do it. Don't you see? He lied. Tricked me. Said he loved me, but he didn't!" Movement caught her eye and she turned to see him, and she lurched toward him. "Tell them! Tell them what you said! No more lies, no more tricks, no more plots! Tell them. Tell them now!" She waited, standing before him, eyes wide and expectant.

She kept coming and his mind closed off. He hardly fought back, and even if he could have, he didn't have time. One moment his daughter's teeth were in his arm and hurt so much, his vision was blurring. The next the moment, something was on his neck, and he couldn't breath.
Teeth punctured skin and there was blood, and he no longer moved. The stillness of the pup's body was so very real. She didn't move an inch.
Then Morgause awoke, she was she. It was only the consciousness that was fighting around the dead body spirit, fighting to regain control of the body. The small pups body began to breathe, but roughly. And blood, blood was everywhere.

Mordred, who was normally a very friendly wolf who quite liked Aliel, was also a father. No one could attack his pup and get away with it, not like that. The wolf's mind was racing so quickly, Why was Aliel doing this? Why did Morgause go with her? But mostly his mind was full of concern for his daughter and anger toward Aliel.
Before he could get there, Aliel tossed Morgause around like a leaf, and her jaw was around Morgause's neck- Morgause stopped moving. Blood was around the pup, and Aliel was boasting. Dead, Dead, He's Dead! Later Mordred would wonder while Aliel was referring to his daughter as a male, but right now he didn't care. Rage filled his body, and seeing Morgause's eerily still body pushed him into action.
The wolf snarled viciously once more and lunged again, Tackling the smaller dog to the ground. Mordred couldn't make sense of the whippets words, and he didn't care too. The only thing stopping him from seriously maiming or possibly killing Aliel was that Morgana was watching. Trying to keep the whippet pinned, Mordred glanced over to see who Aliel was shouting at.
Dad?

The day had started out peaceful. He woke early, as usual, and did his business in the Garden Patch, but in a hurried fashion. Winter was truly here now, and he wanted nothing more than to lay bak down beside Niv and their newborn pups. Five! Five beautiful pups, all of them healthy and beautiful. They'd all been named after the legends, as with their older brothers and sisters, save the youngest, who Niv had wished to be named Rivian. It was a wonderful name, after his mother ad still very close to the names of the legends. He adored his small little pups. But the gardening took longer than he anticipated, and he was forced to clear snow and ice from the sprouts and the sun arched high in the sky before he was done. He couldn't wait for his pups to finish their training, as Laudie would likely be there to work beside him every morning afterwards.
His bad leg aching, Merlin slowly made his way back down the path and into the Spirit Caverns. But peace was not what met him. Barks and growls of an unfriendly nature reached his ears and he recognized his son's voice instantly. Mordred?
Running as fast as his bad leg would allow him, the little palm came skidding to a halt in the clearing. What was going on? His eyes scanned and a few seconds revealed many things to him. Morgana was shrunken back in absolute horror, her legs stiff as though frozen in terror. Morgause was horridly still and Merlin's keen sight only just managed to pick up the small rise and fall of her chest. Mordred was cornering Aliel and Aliel-
What? The words, they made no sense and the Wise Elder realized what this was. A delusion. A delusion? Or- or a vision? He didn't want to believe it, though he didn't think his daughter a liar. Could Alief truly- no. No, these were delusions, just like when she snapped before with him. He needed to snap her out of this, that would end it. Just like before. But first, he needed to get close enough.
He nodded slowly, his gaze steady, "Oh course. They all lied, they all tricked you." What next, what could he say to continue the delusion? One false word or step and the delusion would be challenge and he'd quickly become her enemy. Keep it vague, he reminded himself as he slowly moved closer and closer to the whippet, "You deserved more, and they took it from you. They didn't love you like they should have." He avoided Mordred's gaze, holding only Aliel's. He'd explain it all later.
THERE. Finally close enough, Merlin raised a paw and knocked Aliel's muzzle roughly downwards to her paws, the same submissive gesture he'd used the time before. "Aliel!" He barked roughly, his voice commanding and dominating, something you wouldn't think to hear from a dog so small.

"That's right!" she crowed. "They did, they did, lied and tricked and took it from me! No love, no respect. I deserved it all. You know this. Tell them. Tell them what we planned..." A force struck her and she crumbled, pinned to the ground under a heavy weight. She twisted and fought with all the power in her body, but she couldn't escape. "Get off! Get your paws off me! Help me, help me, get him off, he's hurting me! Mother, I had to do it, don't you see? For the Pack, for our future. It was necessary!"
Then he was leaping at her, one paw landing firmly on her muzzle, but the name he snapped out was not her name, and it confused her. For a moment, at least. Her body tensed and she shuddered all over, and she blinked and then opened her eyes as she relaxed. Her brown eyes rolled, taking in all of them standing around, turning her head to stare at Mordred. "Hey, you, Wise One who is son of Wise Elder Merlin. Get off." She twisted, rolling to her belly. "Lots around. Something happen?" Her eyes fell on Morgause and flared wide. "Blood! Blood means hurt, pain, no no no!" She scrambled to her paws and backed away, tail between her legs and trembling again.
She wanted no part of it, and she whirled around and fled to her den, ducking inside. She didn't know what had happened, why there were so many around, or why the one had blood on her fur, but she didn't want to stick around to find out. To bleed you had to hurt, and Aliel didn't want to hurt or bleed. She crouched in the back of her den, tucking her head between her front paws to block out the world, because that was how she coped with trouble. Run and hide and hope it doesn't find you again.

His dad's words didn't translate in Mordred's mind, and his ears were pinned down. Blood racing, head spinning and all thoughts pointed toward the little girl laying behind them. He couldn't run to her just yet- he had to make sure Aliel wouldn't attack again. Merlin was coming closer, and the adrenaline made Mordred on edge, holding Aliel tighter to keep her from attacking his dad as well-
"Dad, Wha-?" Before he could finish, Merlin shouted and brought his paw down on the. Mordred jerked back, his paws digging further to contain the dog. However, the whippet tensed and then, just relaxed. The once crazed eyes looked up at him and ordered him to get off, completely normal again. As if nothing had happened.
For a moment, Mordred was completely confused. He didn't get anything that had just happened, not having known about Aliel's pass 'visions' of sorts. However, the Whippet's sudden panic pushed Mordred into action. He'd deal with Aliel later right now...
He had to deal with the eerily still body. Releasing the whippet, Mordred turned around and ran, skidding to stand next to his daughter. The wolf may not be as great as his father, but Mordred was a good healer. He didn't panic, and kept a level head as he examined Morgause's unconscious body. Blood was flowing from two places; the neck and shoulder. It looked bad.
But training told him that bleeding could make a wound look a lot worse than it was. He needed materials; Cobwebs to stop the bleeding. Wild Garlic to prevent infection. Would Morgause wake up to need a shock or pain herb? Best to get Thyme and Poppy Seeds in case...
Carefully moving to put pressure on the wound, Mordred tried to ignore his concern and inner frantic worry. It wouldn't help. However, even as he did set about his work, Mordred's eyes did sweep along Morgause's body in a way that wasn't for medical purposes. It was to assure to himself that she was still here.
"Someone get me Cobweb and Wild Garlic." He commanded aloud to no one in particular, if they had any sense someone would do it. Mordred neglected to mention the Thyme and Poppy Seed, he highly doubted Morgause was going to wake up. Small, young bodies tended to go unconscious longer from such traumatic experiences.

Morgana wheezed and tensed as she ran past, parts of her mind still clouded by the visions she'd scene. The attack, he was dead, dead dead dead. She wanted to howl in agony, watching her baby girl flee, how, why!?
But then it was gone, as it had been before and Morgana blinked her brown eyes and shook her head, her tail giving a slight droop as she surveyed the scene before her. Morgause? Morgause! Her dad was there though, and granddad right behind him, so nothing bad would happen to her. What had happened to her? When she reached for the memories, they seemed to buzz in her brain like a nest of angry hornets and she whimpered loudly, running to press her flank against her grandfather. Already she and her siblings were beginning to surpass the older dog in height and it was weird to be taller than him now. He'd alwasy been bigger, not as big as mom, dad or grandma, but still bigger and suddenly he wasn't. She nudged her head gently to her grandfather's and whimpered again. "What's going on?"

Wasn't that the prize winning questions? He thought, the adrenaline creating a large empty space in his mind. One of the Wise Wolves who'd been watching from the sidelines hurried off to fetch the herbs and cobwebs. Mordred was a good healer, his father having helped him, like his other children, himself, and anything Merlin could do at tham moment, Mordred would be just as capable of doing. He eyed the route Aliel had taken. He turned to Morgana, pressing his flank to hers, Gods she was getting big already. Just yesterday she'd been a squirming little mass.
"I was hoping you'd be able to tell us, Morgana." This didn't bode well, and he was forced to put the idiotic idea of visions from his mind. Not visions, flashbacks. Aliel was having delusions or flashbacks of some kind and that was the end of it, damn it! He raised his head and with his paws pointed Morgana's snout downwards so he could check her eyes. She hadn't been physically hurt, but she was showing signs of shock. "Morgana, tell me everything that happened from the moment Aliel approached you and Morgause til now," he ordered his granddaughter.

Behind him Mordred and his hyped up senses could tell that someone was approaching, Morgana's voice announcing her presence. Mordred didn't turn around. Where was Asa? He couldn't deal with Morgana and Morgause. Trying to stem the bleeding from the neck, he was relieved when he heard his dad's voice. Yes, Merlin could take care of Morgana for the time being. Hopefully the girl could calm herself enough to answer the questions, though Mordred wasn't so sure she could; Morgana and Morgause were practically the same person. Well not really, they were entirely different but sometimes...
Not what mattered right now. What mattered was making sure his daughter didn't die. Thankfully, it didn't take long for a sensible wolf to grab what he'd called for. Quickly he prepared the garlic before sprinkling it in the wound carefully, slowly pushing it in a little. Than he pressed on the cobwebs, practically covering the pups' neck in the stuff. "Grab some Thyme and Poppy Seed." He muttered to the person who had given him the previous supplies.
Now they just had to make her comfortable and keep the wound in check. Hope that she woke up.

She paused, her large eyes blinking as she stared at her grandfather. While to some it may have looked like she was trying to think up a story or a lie, she would never have considered lying to the elder dog. She simply was having a hard time, everything was so hazy, like being in a dream.
"I, I don't know, it all happened so fast," she said ducking her head, "And, I wanted to help, but it felt like I could move, my legs didn't feel like my own." It was true, nothing had felt like her own body. It all had felt so foreign, like it wasn't even her own legs. "And then Morgause, she said something and Aliel, she was so angry, and she attacked, but Morgause didn't even fight back," Her headache was coming back again and it felt like her skull was trying to crack itself open. She just wanted it to stop. She wanted to go take a nap with Mama and Daddy and not thing about this horrible day anymore.

Merlin flicked his ears as he became distracted in thought. If Morgana had said something that set Aliel off, he needed to know what it was. Maybe he could sensitize her to it, or else it would be dangerous letting her roam around. What if someone else said something to trigger her. At the same time there was the point that they had no right to contain the dog. While they'd alays known her prone to these fits, she'd been able to make it through her Wise Pup training without too many problems.
Morgana still seemed upset, but it was likely due to the shock of watching her sister be attacked while she stood frozen in fear. After all, the two sisters were as big as Aliel now. He wondered if Morgana felt like she should have done something.
"It's alright, it's okay, pup. Do you remember what they said to each other?" He asked, already edging around the clearing towards the path Aliel had taken. "Aliel?"

It seemed that the wound that Aliel had inflicted upon the small pup was, thankfully, one that bled quite a bit but was not deep. With the cobwebs covering Morgause's neck and a good deal of pressure, he could tell that the blood flow was beginning to stem, clotting against the sticky web. With the bleeding averted, Mordred began to gently feel along her small body, was anything else hurt?
She was going to have bruises and it was going to hurt when she woke up, but Mordred couldn't find anything broken. Nuzzling his unconscious daughter once more as more of a calming measure to himself, muttering to someone to keep an eye on Morgause, he turned and quickly padded toward his other daughter, nuzzling her as he had Morgause. He hadn't seen her get hit, but it was an instinctive thing to check her. Mordred stood beside his daughter, pressing himself against her to try and comfort her and in a slightly protective manner.
"Anything you can remember can be helpful," He urged gently. Mordred was all for throwing Aliel out of the pack; if she would attack a pup, then she was much too dangerous to be here. However, he also knew that his father would never warrant simply throwing someone out. He needed more.
Because apparently attacking a pup wasn't enough.
