It was an odd day, that day. Gawaine had been more rowdy than he usually was, and their mother was complaining of head ache, so she'd sent the rambunctious boy out. Nimueh was a bit put out, having privately enjoyed her brothers' antics, however the peace that she rarely experienced was rather soothing. Even off Morgause was quiet as she lay down with Morgana. Nimueh herself was curled up against her mother, noticing how her mother felt oh so very warm. Was that bad? Somewhere in the back of her mind, the warmth was both soothing and frightening. She remembered her grandfather saying that a lot of people got really warm when they were sick. Was Mommy sick?
Pushing herself up, Nimueh circled around to look at her mother, "Mama, are you okay?" She asked tentatively.

It was a hard feeling to describe. Put simply, she did not feel well. Her personality was normally short, and she didn't deal well with annoyances, but lately, with her not feeling right, her fuse was shorter than ever. She answered all questions in a growl, and it was a struggle just to drag herself out of the den when her children pestered. Most of their care had been taken over by Mordred, who was likewise confused by her mood. She just growled at him too and curled up in their den, faced away from the entrance, and spent hour upon hour lying motionless, emerging only for minutes at a time to eat, drink, and relieve herself.
Like today. Today, it was like the past days. She slept a fitful sleep, waking every so often to fuss uselessly over her shoulder, which tingled and itched persistently. It was the shoulder that had been bitten by that Gods-damned bear, and it was healing well enough, but she had refused further treatment because she didn't want it. She just wanted to sleep and be alone. Gawaine hadn't gotten the message today, and his rowdiness had pricked and poked at her until she'd shaken off the lethargy enough to roll to her belly and snarl at him. "Get out!" she'd snapped, baring her fangs at him. Her teeth itched, her shoulder tingled, her brain fevered. "Get out until you can behave yourself in my presence. I don't have the patience to deal with you right now, and at this moment, I'm ashamed to call you my son."
The words weren't her own. She said them, but she hadn't meant to. They spilled from her mouth without permission, and she regretted them as he teared up, spinning around and darting out. She shouted after him, more words she hadn't intended to say. "Yeah, that's right! Run away like the sissy you are! Run to your father, see how that works for you!" She flopped down, hardly remembering Nimueh, Morgause, or Morgana as she returned to her interrupted sleep.
Sweet, sweet silence. Except she still didn't feel good and it was getting on her nerves. She lay half-awake, twitching and lingering on the verge of sleep without getting there. The voice startled her. She didn't expect it. She came abruptly awake, her eyes snapped open, and she rolled to her feet and lunged at the little pup without a word of explanation. Her brain, so abruptly switched from quiet to awake, sent messages to her body, and conscious thought went ignored. With deadly intent, Asa hurled herself at her littlest daughter.

Morgause was on edge, that much was obvious. However, her edginess paled in comparison to her mother's. The she-wolf snapped at every little thing, and when Gawaine had continually pushed and prodded, he'd be all but thrown out, leaving Morgause, Nimueh and Morgana to be very, very confused. Morgause knew she'd seen a look of fear as Nimueh's tail was clear between her legs.
After a few minutes, Morgana and Morgause curled up together, a bit further from their mother than normal. Morgause kept looking over at their mother with odd looks. Scared. Something made Morgause want to run; it was telling her to leave this den and now. Morgause didn't listen. The oddest part was whenever she looked at Mama, her eyes hurt, and black spots clouded them, but when she looked away they were fine.
Nimueh, unlike her sisters, waited for their mother to calm down, and curled up next to she she-wolf.
For awhile they were peaceful like that, though Morgause kept prodding her sister fearfully with no explanation, sure Morgana felt it too. Than Nimueh got up, and asked that question.
Everything happened so fast, and Morgause yelped in a way that was absolutely terrified as their Mama launched herself at Nimueh. Fear clouded her mind, seeing her sister attacked. The small pup instinctively pressed to the ground and closed her eyes, while Morgause could only keep hers open as she jumped forward, trying to swat her Mama away.
"Don't fight! The Darkness is caving in!" She wailed, realizing that her vision kept flashing. A warning. Run or Darkness will fall.

They'd all felt it. They were all afraid. As Gawaine was sent from the den on the verge of tears, Morgana's heart began to beat wildly, and it was obvious Morguase was feeling it to. Ever since their trip to the falls and into the human camp, ever since the bear had attacked their Mom, she'd been mean, and Morgana... she didn't want to be afraid, she was their Mama, but something told her to run. Run so far, farther than she'd ever run before. No, but that wasn't what family did. Family stuck by you, even when things got bad, right?
Wrong. She winced when Nimueh nudged her mother, her heart beating wildly her fur standing on edge, her tail and flanked pressed to Morgause's in a comforting manner, hoping her shivers of fear wouldn't be felt. But then the snarl came, and as Morgause dropped, pressing herself to the floor, Morgana had to resist the urge to flee once more. She had to help her sisters! What was Mama doing? She turned, almost flopping over, her large paws feeling clumsy under her and she nudged Nimueh harshly, "Morgause, run!" She instructed loudly, looking over to see what had happened to her sister. They were too small to try to fight against someone like Mom!

She'd only wanted to help, and make her Mama feel better. Nimueh didn't like when Mama was like this, screaming at everyone and being so irritable. It made her sad. Than, as she tried to do what she'd seen Grandpa do and ask the patients questions, something happened.
The she-wolf seemed to develop into a monster, and the monster lunged. Nimueh found herself screaming as the monster tried to attack her. Unlike her sister's who both seemed to have had some sort of anxiety leading to this event, almost expecting it, Nimueh did not. She'd expected her Mama to open her eyes and assure her that it was alright, just a little fever.
Nimueh did not expect to be screaming, and frozen in place. She needed to run, escape, but she couldn't think. Her body had some instinct to move, but her mind wasn't responding fast enough. Instead, the pup did something in-between, moving to the ground and shutting her eye shut. If she couldn't see it, it wasn't happening.
The shout of her sister's made her eyes open, just in time to see a small shape hurling itself at their mother. Too small to do much, but enough that Mama and Morgause went rolling to the side. Nimueh couldn't process, and suddenly Morgana was there, nudging Nimueh to move. So she did, she got up and felt her heart dropped when she realized that Morgause had inadvertently pushed Mama in the way of the exit, so all Nimueh could do was shove herself against the wall in cower.

She couldn't control herself. It was like there was another being in her head, controlling her actions, and in the back of her mind she could only watch as she flung herself at Nimueh. The girl screamed, obviously frightened, recoiling as her mother sprang at her. She didn't make it. The body of one of her other daughters collided with her, knocking into her hard enough to cause her to smash face-first into the wall. Her nose was sliced open by the pointed tip of a rock, and the added pain crazed her. She positively roared in fury, whirling and striking out with a paw at Morgause.
Between the two, there was another pup. She didn't remember her name, and she didn't pause to try. Punishment dealt to the interfering little brat, her eyes landed once more on the form of her smallest daughter. Her light fur drew Asa's eye to her. And she didn't have to do much more than bounce forward, striking out with one paw to roll the other black girl out of the way, and snap with cruel fangs at the pup.

With so much movement, Morgause only knew that one moment she was screaming for her Mama to stop, and the next she slammed into said Mama. The two she-wolves slammed against the wall, and Morgause whimpered in pain. Landing roughly on the floor, she could only yelp as her mother struck out against Morgause's muzzle, causing blood to trickle out. Morgause herself was shoved down.
Asa was then gone, no longer interested in Morgause. The pup tried to get up, she couldn't let her sister get hurt, right? Once on her feet, Morgause stumbled forward, howling and trying to push her mother away, though not with nearly as much momentum. She couldn't even consider using teeth or claws, her mind was racing and unable to think. Besides, how could her hurt Mama?

Morgana whimpered loudly and remembered the way she'd seen her grandpa snap Aliel out of her frenzied attack on Morgause only a few days before. Was that it? Was Mama upset like Aliel had been. She wasn't herself, Morgana knew that, Mama would have never hurt them, Mama loved them! Little heart beating faster than she'd ever remembered, she ran forward, coming between her mother and small Nimueh. She launched her forepaw out in a strong but hesitant strike, smacking her mother's muzzle where the blood had yet to hit.
"Please, Mama!" She yelled, hoping to snap her out of whatever it was, "Stop!"

Nimueh still didn't move. Morgana's nudges weren't doing anything, the she-pup was petrified. Papapapapapapapapa, where are you Papa? Grandpa Merlin? She wanted someone- anyone to come. Watching Morgause get clawed made Nimueh jerk back a little, but she still couldn't move.
Asa was turning around. Move. Move. Move. Mama was coming closer. Move. Move. Move. The monster was attacking. A sharp pain pierced into her flank and Nimueh shrieked "MAMA! MAMA STOP! PLEASE MAMA!" Her vision was blurred, and the whole situation was giving her such anxiety. Can't breathe. Can't breathe. Move. Move. Move.
Papa, Where are you? It hurts so much.
