Servia was curled in her corner of the den, watching her denmates try to make fun of the day off, but it was hard. A mountain was a difficult place to live in the winter, especially as far up as they were, and many of them were clumped together to stay warm. Some Wise Wolves had roughed the storm to bring food to them that morning, and the Wise Watcher had told them lessons would be cancelled. A snow storm was brewing outside, and luckily they were tucked enough into the hollow of the mountain to stay free of the snow, but you could still hear it whipping outside.
Her sister and brothers were sound asleep, but some of the new Wise Pups were up, too anxious about their new position in the pack to sleep or relax. It didn't help that Kay, the idiot, was running around wrestling anything that moved. Stupid furball. Of all the canines in the hollow, he had the thickest pelt, but he acted like he couldn't sit still. She bopped him on the head when he came to close and then bit out a snarl. Laudie took the hint and went to help reign her brothers in. She rolled her eyes and stretched. Sleep wasn't coming. She'd slept enough. She rose slowly, her bones stiff, and padded over to where the Poof clan was entertaining some of the new pups with one of their father's stories.

Derek was new to this rank, he hadn't had a single lesson yet and he didn't know what to do. Was he suppose to sit here? Lessons were canceled and the young black pup was just confused beyond belief. He had spotted a familiar pup, the bundle of white fur was playing with everyone that moved. Derek didn't move.
Sitting away from the others, he wasn't sure about going over to the others. After all, barely in pups ever interacted with him before. Save for that one he went on a adventure with. But that was it and he hadn't seen her since then.

She'd spent the entire morning trying to keep Lance and Kay from destroying the den completely, as all the older males were getting extremely restless and the Wise Watcher kept threatening to throw them out into the storm. Laudie was done with them and instead curled up with her sisters, watching the chaos unfold, at least until Servia sent her a warning glare. She zipped forward and latched onto Kay's tail, giving it a sharp bite and dragging him over to the pups, who were begging for a story.
"Sit down and help me tell the story, Kay," she commanded, knowing Lance would follow Kay if he joined them. She gave a pleased sigh when the large white male flopped over and rolled onto his back, looking up at her excitedly. He was so silly.
"Have any of you ever heard the story of why Odin only has one eye?" she asked them. Many of them shook their heads, thought some nodded them energetically. She was about the same size as the younger pups, but it didn't bother her in the least. "Odin’s quest for wisdom is never-ending, and he is willing to pay any price, no matter how big or small for the understanding of life’s mysteries. Once he ventured to Mimir’s Well, which some know as the Well of Urd, nestled amongst the roots of the world-tree Yggdrasil. There dwelt Mimir, a shadowy being whose knowledge of all things was practically unparalleled among the inhabitants of the cosmos. He achieved this status largely by taking his water from the well, whose waters impart this cosmic knowledge."
"What's a well?" One of the Wise Pups asked, interrupting the story. "I thought it was a spring?"
"A well is like a spring. It's where someone has dug a hole to reach the water underground, and you can make them where ever you please, so it's easier to reach water. Keep in mind, I've never heard of any animal making a well, but the Gods aren't normal animals. When Odin arrived, he asked Mimir for a drink from the water. The well’s guardian, knowing the value of such a draught, refused unless the seeker offered an eye in return. Odin gouged out one of his eyes and dropped it into the well. Having made the necessary sacrifice, Mimir dipped his horn into the well and offered the now-one-eyed god a drink."

He'd heard the story once or twice when he was younger, but still thought it was stupid. "I still don't get why someone would give up one of the only two eyes they have, just to take a drink from the Well. What if the water just told him something he already knew!?" He asked incredulously, rolling over onto his stomach.
"I like the stories about King Arthur, tell one of them!" he pleaded with his younger sister, who in his opinion, was a much better story teller than he was. "Not hardly any one knows those but Dad and I know you know them all," he pleaded with a puppy-like whimper.

As the large white dog whined about the story, Servia rolled her eyes. He was so stupid and goofy! "No," She said curtly as she sat down, the little pups turning to look at her, eyes wide. After all, she would be graduating soon and was much bigger than they.
"The Poof's stories are just that, stories. The history of our Gods is important, much more so than some human myth that your father learned about and then decided to name you all after," she said with a slight sneer. It was true. Growing up being friends with the Poof pack had made her irritated with their obsession with the silly stories. They were Wise Woles, they needed to tell the history of the ones who mattered the most, their Gods.

Stories? What were these stories they were telling? Derek could hear them and he was curious about them. He caught sight of a familiar ball of white fur, Kay wasn't it? Yes, that was Kay. The dog he had meet before. Derek thought about going over to him when he heard the voice of a female, who in his opinion, sounded very unhappy.
His gaze went to her and then back to the others. Great. Now what was going on? Staying seated and where he was, Derek's tail wrapped around himself as his ears slanted. Just great, things were going for a strange turn weren't they?

As Servia and Kay argued, the little Wise Pup rolled her eyes, one of the new ones asked for another story. Well, Servia was right. Their history was important, but all of them knew many of the old Gods tales. It would be difficult to relate them to these pups, though. The Legends were original about humans. Sure they'd grown up knowing about all of them, so it all made sense to her and Kay and their siblings, but as Servia had shown, they were often considered silly to the others.
"How about this. Many many years ago, but the humans ruled the land, there was a wolf named Arthur. Arthur was raised by a small pack of wolves and his adopted brother was named Kay." Laudie started, trying to simplify the story as much as possible. "Arthur and Kay were hunting one day and when Arthur cost Kay his catch, he sent the younger wolf into the forest to retrieve something for dinner to bring home to their pack. It was in the woods that Arthur met an old dog by the name of Merlin. Merlin was what you'd call a wizard, and the Gods had granted him magic and the power to use it on the world around him." She explained.
She looked to see if Servia and Kay had calmed down yet.

Kay growled back at Servia. The two had never gotten along very well, their personalities conflicting. "Oh yeah? At least our dad named us after something cool! What kind of name is Servia anyways?" He challenged.
But Laudie had started her story. Aw, it wasn't like dad told it, but if she was telling it different for the others, then maybe it would be like hearing a new story. He moved away from Servia and edged in clsoer to the group, flopping down and lolling his tongue out happily. That made sense, he guessed, telling the story to the others like they were canines. It would certainly make it more relatable. That was the word he was looking for, right? Relatable. Bleh, words. He wondered how she would explain the sword in the stone, though?

As the younger wolf dog insulted her name Servia growled, but he was out of her sight in an instant, rolling in to listen to his sister's story once more. She took a deep breath and breathed out slowly. Calm down, he's just a stupid mutt. But that was rude too. He wasn't a mutt, he was just stupid. After all, look at Laudie. She may have loved the stories but she was a smart one and knew the important of their history. Hesitantly she moved around the group, settling closer to the youngest of Kay's litter. She got along just fine with the rest of his siblings, but Kay always rubbed him the wrong way.
And this story wasn't about humans. She'd heard bits and pieces of the stories about the humans her "Uncle Merlin" had told, but never really understood them, nor bothered to. Why should she? She wasn't a human. But if this story was about wolves, well, she guess she'd listen.

Well things were going downhill and it was that downhill motion that kept Derek away from the group. He could still hear the story though. As Servia moved though, the young wolf hide himself in the shadows of the corner that he was in, only to emerge once she sat down. He was really bad at this.
A weak sigh left the pup as he rose to his paws and slowly went toward the exit. He was trying to move quietly so those that were listening to the story, wouldn't be disturbed along with the ones telling the stories. Once at the entrance, he sat down and turned his gaze to just glance about.
