She didn't really want to leave. No matter what, Jenlee would always love her family, especially her mother. How she hated to break her mother's heart like this. But she couldn't stay, not with D.... Linden. Not with Dila and the ideals that her family held. Jenlee missed him, her mentor who was more of a father than Linden had ever been. It took a half-moon for her to work up the nerve, and even then she couldn't even give a proper goodbye. The she-wolf had nuzzled her mother good night, was more gentle with Dila and even her Father.
Then she ran, in the dead of night, ran away.
For all night she kept running, knowing that if she was caught it would all be over. Besides, she could never face her family again, not ever deserting them for the ones they despised. After she crossed the mountain?
Only the gods knew where she had to go. The scent trails were so faint, rain and snow having washed them out. Besides, she was sure that they had gone through the gorge and not over the mountain as she had. Now she walked slowly, trying to remember the amount of training she had received from Gabe so that she could make it through, ears alert and body close to the ground, ready for anything.
Ready to be caught.

He had been taking the morning patrols, simply because he liked them. It was nice to be able to different things other than guarding, though he understood that the hunters still preferred to hunt and the soldiers still preferred patrols. He understood some were better at certain things, but making them all share the responsibilities definitely relieved the stress from everyone. Also, the squires were now receiving a more well rounded education, which had been his aim all along.
As the stepped through the foothills, moving at a steady pace, marking their territory hear and there, Gabe felt like he could feel something. He paused, his paws sinking into the snow as he stood and stared at the mountains to the south, the Elder Oak still there on the horizon, a constant reminder of their lost home. He flicked his ears and the patrol slowed around him, waiting for him or for some kind of signal.
It wasn't fear, but something was coming. He flicked his tail as the wind shifted suddenly, bringing the scents of the low lying end of the mountains to him and he froze in place, raising a paw ever so slightly in surprise.
He knew that scent. He let out a loud howl, summoning the younger pup to him and the rest of the patrol moved to follow him as he moved south, closer to the mountains. Hold on, Jenlee, I'm coming.

Jenlee hadn't really thought it through, well, she had, but she hadn't expected it to be so difficult. She couldn't decide if it would have been a better idea to go through the gorge with it's milder weather or up the mountain, a shorter journey. Either way, she had taken the risk.
She was always frail and after her disastrous trip as a pup and subsequent moon with the wise wolves, it hadn't been much better. Stronger due to Gabe's training, but a long trip without sleeping in the dead of night up a mountain in the winter was bound to be very hard.
Exhaustion seeped into her bones and the snow clung to her fur, though she tried to shake it off, and she was shivering just a little.
Her senses were diluted, but her fur prickled as she could tell something was near, but it was hard to figure out what. Then a howl ripped through the air, and she recognized it. Gabe, her mentor. Perking her head up, Jenlee attempted a return howl, but it was weaker and only just audible to wherever he may be.
Despite her weak state, Jenlee could feel adrenaline pumping through her. The howls could attract someone, what if her D- Linden heard? He came after her?
It was a combination of the fear, adrenaline and the excitement at seeing her mentor again that made her able to start running with agility, one of the few things she was good at. Running toward the sounds and toward the scents, Gabe.

She'd been lost in the confusion, and while he'd looked for here while they had been fleeing the camp, she'd been no where to be found and he was only able to pray for his squire's safety as they fled. Of course she would be safe. Linden meant them all harm, sure, but the wolf doubted he'd hurt his daughter, especially just to hurt Gabe.
But he hadn't expected this. His heart swelled with pride for the she-wolf he'd come to think of as a daughter. She'd braved coming over the Snake Range by herself in the middle of the night in winter. She was much braver than many wolves. As the wind carried her scent to him he let out a happy bark, hearing her howl just through the trees as the forest grew sparse along the mountainside. Ears perked he caught sight of the red bundle and wagged his tail furiously running to greet her, past his patrol. She was shivering and looked cold to the bone, but otherwise unhurt. His tail whipped back and forth even as he leaned his head to lick in excitement at her frozen ears.
"You're alright?" He asked, checking her over for any injuries. None tha he could see, but still he was worried. "Come, you need food and a warm bed."
