Nearly two moons into her stay with the back, and Iris could still feel the stares. Not that she blamed them, and she could handle it. The whispering accusations and the insults and even occasional threat wouldn't get to her, at least not visibly, they may eat her up inside, reminding her of what she had done, but Iris was not weak. However overwhelmed she may have been when she first came, she was not weak, and she could handle it.
Or, she pretended she could, anyway.
What really bothered her, was how sometimes it wouldn't be her they'd be staring at, it would be her stomach which grew, becoming rather large and Iris was worried, not sure how she could handle even one pup, let alone the large litter she knew was inside her... Three or four, at her prediction, and it made her beyond nervous and protective. They could accuse her, insult her and threaten her, but they couldn't stare at her stomach and make comments without getting a barbed response, they couldn't threaten her pups without being snarled at.
Right now, anyway, Iris was threatening her own pups enough for all of them combined.
She'd been sleeping when the pain rippled through her, and pushed herself to her feet, snarling to herself at the pain. Stumbling to the den entrance she poked her head out and ordered the guard that was stationed nearby to go get her mother. With that done, she turned back and leaned up against the wall, trying to breathe through the contractions.

| L uke had been checking in on the dams and elders when he'd intercepted the knight who apparently was miffed about having to be 'the traitor's errand bitch' but Luke ignored the comment and told him to carry on, padding off instead towards to more isolated den that Iris had taken at the edge of the camp. Luke had wanted to offer her to move into his den, which was much more insulated and well padded, as well as safer, but Iris seemed to downplay their slight flirting and she always made him feel like it was a stupid thing to offer. She'd likely turn him down anyway, she was too proud and independent.
But the pups needed a father and he wanted to be there to offer himself up as their father so they'd never have to ask their mother that question of where their father was. As he neared the den he could see her pacing inside and she stuck his head in, cocking it slightly. "The guard's still off looking for Sable. How are you doing? Do you need more moss or something to drink?" He asked in concern.

Sable was at the stream for a drink when the guard showed up, telling her that her daughter wanted her right away- he didn't know why but apparently it was urgent and for some reason she had been unable to come find Sable herself. He must not have remembered the last time someone had insulted Iris; but he found out quickly enough the old wolf had plenty of literal bite left.
Entering the camp, shaking tufts of fur from her jaws, Sable padded across to Iris' den- the knight entered shortly afterward, slinking off to his den, one bleeding ear evidence of the encounter with the old female. The old wolf ignored him, though, after checking that he wasn't trying to come this way. She, Luke, and Iris didn't need his rude attitude over here. Easing into the den, Sable blinked at Iris gently. "Is it time?" Was she about to become a grandmother again? "Relax, Iris. It will hurt worse if you tense up. Let your muscles go slack- it'll help. Trust me. Your body knows what to do."
