Kay wasn't the most intuitive of the bunch. Sure he had had enough of an aura to be accepted as a Wise Pup, but he was more a soldier, a fighter, than a teacher or healer. Hel, his nieces, Morgana and Morgause, were much more intune with the spiritual side of things than him and they were much younger than he. Sure he was a gut feelings kind of dog, but most things still when clear over his head.
So when he found his paws leading him into the mountain pass, the underground caves, he was surprised. It just... felt like the place to be. He'd never been outside before and had certainly never been in the caverns that created a series of tunnels, but his paws led him on. Ever now and again he'd scent the cave-dwelling canine wise wolves and star gazers. The words of his father echoed in his head. It was a trick that his father had taught him as a pup, when he'd always gotten lost in the caves of the Spirit Caverns. 'Kay, if you ever find yourself trapped in a series of caves, push your shoulder to the right and continue on and eventually it will lead you out.' He didn't get why, Laudie and the rest of his littermates had, and they'd tried to explain it to him, but it had gone right over his head. So he did just that.
It was like... the weirdest thing he'd ever felt. Like someone had taken control of his paws and were moving them for him. He wasn't tired, or hungry or thirsty, not even several hours later when his shoulder bumped into a heavy boulder, the same that helped hide the entrance to the outside world. He froze. What was he doing? What he going to leave? No, he couldn't leave. They didn't let the wise wolves leaves. For the first time in his entire life, the dog felt suddenly like he was trapped. Why couldn't he leave if he wanted? It wasn't fair. Why couldn't he push aside this boulder and run free and then return home?
Because it wasn't done. He pressed the pad of his paw against the cool stony surface of the boulder and like out a sigh. Suddenly a picture of a familiar wold came to the forefront of his mind and Kay let out a quiet whimper. Jenlee. He missed the pup terribly. Then again she wasn't a pup anymore. They weren't pups anymore. He bet she had grown up into a beautiful she-wolf. Not that he'd ever get to see her again. She was probably settled with a mate in her pack. He didn't want to think about having to see her when he took a visit to the Pack for the first time. No other she-wolf had been able to drawn his interest since he'd met the pup. Oh yes he'd been young, but that didn't change it at all. He was head over tail for the ginger and auburn she-wolf.
Like a dog possessed, he pushed the boulder aside slowly and carefully, putting his shoulder behind the push, inching it just enough that he could slip out. He just needed some fresh air, he reasoned to himself. He wouldn't go past here. Poking his head out, hi body still in the caverns, Kay peered up at the sky. He didn't know what he'd been expecting but it was the same on this side of the mountain. He could hear the rushing of water nearby and flicked his ear as he drew in a deep breath. Surely he was going batty, he though absentmindedly, because he was certain he could still smell the she-wolf, even now.
