Identity Crisis
Full Name: Galestar
Nick Names: N/A
Age: 37 Moons
Sex: Male
Breed: Feral Cat
Alliance: Shadowclan
Position: Leader
Sexuality: Heterosexual
Looking In The Mirror
Eye Color: Dark Hazel
Pelt: Mackerel tabby
Body Type: Short and bulky, heavy set
Identifying Features: Scar running back right flank
Appearance:
Galestar doesn't have a very impressive appearance to begin with, on a dark palette with his dark brown pelt of a mackerel tabby and dark hazel eyes to match. He's never really been big, a little shorter than average but with some bulk, strong where he's not quite as agile, a rather bad hunter and always preferring to be in a border patrol to a hunting party. Through his life he's been in a few altercations, obviously, but he's been fortunate enough to get away with few marks. However, he does have one scar running the length of his back right flank from one particularly nasty fight with a rogue he is still sure was not in the right mind.

Personality:
For the most part, Galestar is a pretty chill guy. He can be a bit of a goofball most of the time, joking around with his brother, making up stories and playing around with the younger cats. With whom, he's very good with, having once enjoyed to be around the nursery nearly all the time. This enjoyment had admittedly taken a hit as the experience is bittersweet, finding kits enjoyable and sweet, but the nursery for him is filled with memories he'd like to forget. His mate and first love, Birdsong, died giving birth, none of the kits surviving. While this was many moons ago, it is still something he can struggle with, always scared of losing people. Being around the nursery leads to him being a little more nervous, and if a she-cat becomes pregnant, he's likely to become a little panicky around them, worried about birth and survival. The same goes for the sick, he finds himself anxious for the ill, and in times of outbreak, Galestar becomes much more serious and focused, even somewhat pushy with the medicine cat, nagging for them to put an end to the illness even though he tries to remember to back off.
Part of the reason that Birdsong's death affected him so greatly is that Galestar has a need for people. The idea of losing someone scares him to no end, and he becomes paranoid of loyalty and would likely need someone to be patient with him as he need reassurances. Not many people know how he is with this, of course, that he can even have a bit of a panic attack in times of extreme stress of his personal life. One of the very few who does know is his brother, Briarclaw, who is the best at calming him down.
When Galestar isn't having an attack, however, he's quite a bit better. A good leader, and a natural mentor, he is very patient with the younger ones and with other clans, difficult to anger. He hates the idea of getting into fights with other clans and will go to lengths to try and keep the peace. Despite this, Galestar's loyalty to Shadowclan is deep and his first priority, and if it was for the good of his clan than he would take it to the battle if necessary. Thankfully, he is rather good at fighting itself as well and can certainly hold his own in a confrontation, though the large tom had little success as a hunter.

History:
Born moons ago to a pair of young warriors, Galestar was born Galekit with his siblings, Briarkit and Pinekit. Unfortunately, as is not all that uncommon with young litters, the whole litter would not make it and Pinekit passed soon after birth. The brothers were definitely a handful for the young couple, Juniperleaf and Hailstorm and more often then not Juniperleaf quickly learned one of the best ways to calm down their rambunctious sons was to pass them off to Juniperleaf's uncle, the once medicine cat, Toadpelt. The tom was on the older side, and seemed to have story after story for the young kits, who soon learned that visiting Toadpelt was one of their best bets.
When the time came to become apprentices, both were eager and right on track as they received their named Galepaw and Briarpaw with mentors to match. Close as they were, it only seemed natural that the game of apprenticeship would become a bit of a competition, but a very healthy one as they pushed each other to their limits. It was about halfway through their apprenticeship that another apprentice joined their ranks, a young she-cat by the name of Birdpaw. Really, it didn't take long for Galepaw to take an interest in the friendly, if a little quiet, girl. By the time Galepaw received his warrior name of Galestorm, in honor of his father's suffix, the two were practically an official couple and once Birdpaw had become Birdsong, it only took two moons before she had to move to the nursery, Galestorm excited to be a father at the tender age of 17 moons.
There was a sickness throughout the camp, and as it took both their medicine cat and Galestorm's uncle, Toadpelt's, life, Birdsong's birth was a difficult one and she never survived, two kits stillborn that he gave the names Ravenkit and Robinkit and the remaining third only just live-born. Galestorm did his best as the kit, named Songkit for her mother, was accepted into the litter of another queen. Despite their bets efforts, Songkit didn't survive a moon. Since then, Galestorm has had a few opportunities to possibly find a new mate, but his reluctance to have kits and slight needy attitude when it comes to a romance has left little possibilities.
Understandably, Galestorm was fairly sulky for a moon, and when his mother announced that she was having another litter only half a moon after the death of Songkit, he was very panicky, constantly visiting her and checking on the queen. Juniperleaf quickly grew tired of the attitude, and was soon talking to the leader. The next kit that was made an apprentice would then become Galestorm's first apprentice when he was 19 moons.
It suited him, and he jumped into the position, working hard to train the young cat, some of it stemming from his left over parental instinct. The apprentice excelled and was able to graduate to receive his warrior name at only 11 moons, as they had no siblings with which they wanted to graduate. It was not long after that the previous deputy stepped down from his position to join the elders den, leaving the even then old Nettlestar to choose Galestorm as her deputy due to his proven excellence in training the kit that was Nettlestar's nephew. Galestorm took the position with pride and worked well with it, though he was soon dropping hints that he'd love the chance to have another apprentice, and when his younger siblings were given apprentices, Galestorm was given the honor to train Spottedpaw.
Admittedly, despite his enthusiasim to train an apprentice, her training got put on the back burner as Nettlestar passed when Galestorm was only 30 moons, leaving the young deputy to take his trip to the moonstone to receive his new name, Galestar, and his nine lives. He has as such ended up placing a bit of his training duties on a few other warriors, asking them to take her on patrols, for the first moon that he was leader and getting used to things. Soon, though, he was resuming his mentor-ship of the young she-cat.
It seemed that the nine lives had left him a little cocky, for when the time came that a badger came into the forest and attacked him and Spottedpaw as they trained he took the bad idea of taking the badger on himself instead of waiting for Spottedpaw to return with reinforcements. When the warriors arrived, it was too late and he lost a life on the floor of the medicine cat's den only that night. Thankfully, he has since become much more careful, after a bit of chiding from his mother.
Spottedpaw graduated from the apprentice den only two moons ago, and he was infinitely proud to give her her warrior name that he picked out himself in honor of her eyes that were two different colors, and that she took great pride in herself. Since then, Galestar has been doing what he thinks is a good job leading his clan, though he is a bit amused by the surrounding clan's continued change in leadership, when Shadowclan's own past leader and deputy had been in charge for moons upon moons with little need for change up until their age caught up to them.
At the moment, he is admittedly a little excited at the prospect of getting another apprentice, and it would not be surprising if he took one of the next kits to become one.

Nonononono.... no. Breathe. Don't stop, in and out. In, In, In, In. Let go, exhale. It's alright, just breathe.
This feeling of utter helplessness was sending him into a whirl of despair, he couldn't breathe. Air came in short and clipped, out long and ragged. Every bone was shaking. Where was Briarbreeze? Last time this happened, it had been his brother who finally calmed Galefrost down and allowed him to breathe, his body to still. When Petaldove had been sick, she had stopped breathing. While the love he felt for her had dimmed, he still could vividly remember through the hazy memories the feelings. He couldn't save her, she was gone. She wasn't coming back and there would never be anyone like her again.
Depression would be normal, the panic attack Galefrost was sent into was not normal. They had come at random intervals throughout the course of a quarter moon, and occasionally afterward for another moon. Each one terrified Galefrost, for each one Briarbreeze was right there, quickly taking Galefrost where he wouldn't be made a spectacle and comforting Galeforst, reminding him to breathe. Where was Briarbreeze? The other tom would probably search for his brother soon, once he heard the news he would know how Galefrost was reacting.
Until then, Galefrost had to comfort himself. He was not very good at that, hence why he was now pressed against the soggy marsh at the base of the great tree as he tried to steady himself. The black and white body was shivering uncontrollably and convulsing. Odd gasps and choking sounds emmitted from him, his amber eyes were alternating between being squeezed shut in the short moments that he could think coherently and try to calm himself. It's okay. This isn't Petaldove. Dawnfeather isn't dead, she's just at windclan... Dawnfeather left. She's gone. She's gone. She's left them. Nononononon. It was a record stuck on repeat as he would make weak attempts to control himself, only to dissolve into unreasonable panic.
Breathe. Just breathe.
