He huffed in slight annoyance at the delay presented by his younger son, Kay. Not that he hadn't expected it, honestly, that's why he told the dog they'd be leaving at sunrise, Merlin not really planning to head off until a little while later. While he normally didn't take trips to see the Pack when they fell so close to the birth of one of his litters, the strange visions Aliel had been having along with the reports from the wise wolves that a large group of canines moved through the gorge, appearing the have buried a canine there. As one of the oldest of the Wise Elders (or rather, despite the fact that he was one of the oldest Wise Elders), we was to accompany a Wise Wolf and a Wise Pup down. Kay had been his first pick since most of the other older ones had already been on their trip down to see the pack, and Mordred had only been chosen to get him out of his den and off the mountain for while. The moons since Asa and Nimueh's deaths had not calmed him and it was all Merlin could do for his son to just get him "out of the house" so to speak. He sat on the path that lead through the Smokey Forest towards the only exit and entrance to their territory, a small bushel of herbs tied together with the vines from some particularly sturdy weeds around a large palm leaf he got from a tree near the falls. He cocked his head, hearing one of his son's approach and thumped his tail against the ground expectantly.

Maybe it was childish, but he did not want to leave. He didn't want to leave his daughter's for more than a second. Morgause and Morgana were... disturbed, that was the only way he could think to describe it. He loved both of them, of course, but the way Morgause was acting was very worrisome, Morgana not that better, though they at least seemed to work well together. He could only be thankful that Gawaine seemed... Well, better than his sister's. Nimueh had been his best friend, and Mordred knew it was difficult for his son to adjust, as he didn't fit in with his remaining sister's.
It made him anxious to leave his pups, despite the fact that they had begun their wise pup training, and to say he'd become mildly depressed when they left his den and he found himself alone, was an understatement. He was used to the pups, to having Asa around. Now he had neither, and it was much too quiet. Arthur hung around, trying to cheer him up, but Mordred wasn't in the mood. Instead, the once adventurous and rambunctious wolf was much quieter, checking on his pups at every opportunity and why did his father have to choose him for this journey? Too far and too long.
Reluctantly, he was padding along to meet his father, unsure of how he felt about his younger brother tagging along. Maybe it would be good for him to have a more energetic wolf around, and who knew, maybe he could get something out of teasing the younger wolf about that she-wolf that had joined recently. Mordred felt bad for not paying closer attention to the going-ons of his family, not even knowing the she-wolf's name, but at least he knew a little bit.
"Dad," He greeted with more respect than he'd ever had before the whole ordeal, having grown up quite a bit through it all. He couldn't remember the last time he'd teased his father or picked him up until their mother told them to knock it off. "Has Aliel's visions given any clue on what's going on?"

The old dog shook his head. Never had he felt so old. He was, for the first time in his life, truly worried about being around to watch his newest litter make it to adulthood. He'd try, for certain, but he was the oldest canine on Genie Mountain, quite a feat. "No. I have the horrible feeling that it will all become clear once we find out what has truly happened." The pack separating was troublesome, certainly, but it was rather the sheer number, as well as the sight of a body being carried to be buried in the Gorge. While there was no rule against this, only against bloodshed in the neutral territory, it still was... unsettling. "Have you see you brother?" He asked impatiently, turning to look at the path. He was going to cuff Kay behind the ear when he finally showed up, as it was well past sun up. "I told him to be here at sun up," he grumbled, giving a look at his older son, "When he gets here make a show that we've been waiting ages for him, would you?"TAG: Kay, MordredWORDS: 205NOTES: I'll post Kay after Mordred's next post
